How it works

  1. Post for free

Say what you need, where and when. It takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

  2. Compare offers

Local providers offer to help. Look at their listings, photos, badges and reviews, and ask questions first.

  3. Pay safely

Pay through Needsey once you agree. The money is held until the job is confirmed done, then released to the provider.

Before you book

  • Arrange a meet and greet first so your pet can meet the carer before the first booking.
  • Ask how they handle medication, special diets and an emergency vet visit.
  • For boarding, ask who else lives in the home, including other pets, and where your pet will sleep.

About Pet Care in Lower Hutt

Pet care on Needsey covers the everyday help that keeps animals happy while life gets busy: dog walks on long workdays, drop-in visits to feed the cat, a few nights of home boarding while you're away, or someone to keep an eye on the chooks over a long weekend. Booking the same local at the same time each week helps your pet get to know them. Post what your pet needs, how often, and anything about their temperament, and local carers can offer to help.

Questions about pet sitters and dog walkers

What affects the cost of pet care?

How long each visit or walk is, how many pets, how often you book, and whether it is a drop-in visit or an overnight stay. Medication, puppies and extra care needs can add time.

What should I tell a pet sitter?

Feeding amounts and times, where the lead and food are kept, any medication, behaviour around other dogs or people, your vet's details and an emergency contact.

Should my pet's vaccinations be up to date?

Yes, especially for boarding or group walks. Many carers ask for proof of current vaccinations and flea and worm treatment before the first booking.

Can I book the same carer every week?

Yes. Once a job is done you can book the same provider again, once or on a regular schedule. They accept each booking and you pay per job.

How does payment work on Needsey?

You pay through Needsey once you and a provider have agreed the job. Nothing is charged before then. The money is held until the job is confirmed done: by you, or automatically if you haven't confirmed or pressed Not done yet within 5 days of the provider marking it finished. It is released to the provider 24 hours after that, unless a dispute is raised in that time.

Are providers on Needsey checked?

Every provider completes an ID check before taking jobs. Some work needs more: a Ministry of Justice criminal record check for babysitting, companionship for older people and school tutoring, and a licence and insurance for electrical, plumbing, gas and building work. Listings show badges for the checks a provider has passed. For other work that needs a licence, ask the provider for theirs.

What if something goes wrong?

If the provider marks the job finished and it isn't, press Not done yet and say what's missing. Once a job is confirmed done, you can raise a dispute from the job's chat during the 24 hours before the payment is released, with photos or other evidence. A real person at Needsey reviews it and decides whether the payment goes to the provider or back to you. This doesn't take away your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
