Local providers offer to help. Look at their listings, photos, badges and reviews, and ask questions first.
Pay through Needsey once you agree. The money is held until the job is confirmed done, then released to the provider.
Whether it's a new deck, a bathroom refresh, a sleepout or repairs after years of weather, local builders on Needsey can help. People post renovation and repair jobs with photos and rough measurements, and providers offer to quote, visit or ask questions. Building work in New Zealand has clear rules: restricted building work must be done or supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner, and some projects need building consent from your council. Ask early so there are no surprises.
The size and complexity of the job, materials, access, consent and design needs, and how long it takes. A site visit is often the best way to get an accurate quote.
For restricted building work, which covers work on the structure or weathertightness of a home, yes. Many small repairs don't need one. Your council or the provider can tell you.
Some projects do and many small jobs are exempt under the Building Act. Check with your council before work starts, as doing consented work without it can cause problems later.
Yes. A written quote sets out what is included, materials, timing and how changes are priced, which helps both of you.
It depends on the job, materials and weather. Agree a timeframe and how you will keep in touch while work is under way.
You pay through Needsey once you and a provider have agreed the job. Nothing is charged before then. The money is held until the job is confirmed done: by you, or automatically if you haven't confirmed or pressed Not done yet within 5 days of the provider marking it finished. It is released to the provider 24 hours after that, unless a dispute is raised in that time.
Every provider completes an ID check before taking jobs. Some work needs more: a Ministry of Justice criminal record check for babysitting, companionship for older people and school tutoring, and a licence and insurance for electrical, plumbing, gas and building work. Listings show badges for the checks a provider has passed. For other work that needs a licence, ask the provider for theirs.
If the provider marks the job finished and it isn't, press Not done yet and say what's missing. Once a job is confirmed done, you can raise a dispute from the job's chat during the 24 hours before the payment is released, with photos or other evidence. A real person at Needsey reviews it and decides whether the payment goes to the provider or back to you. This doesn't take away your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
