How it works

  1. Post for free

Say what you need, where and when. It takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

  2. Compare offers

Local providers offer to help. Look at their listings, photos, badges and reviews, and ask questions first.

  3. Pay safely

Pay through Needsey once you agree. The money is held until the job is confirmed done, then released to the provider.

Before you book

  • Ask to see where your pet will sleep, eat and play, and how secure the fencing is.
  • Ask who else lives in the home, including children and other pets.
  • Agree what happens if your pet gets unwell, and leave your vet's details.

About Home Pet Boarding

Home pet boarding means your pet stays in a local carer's home instead of a kennel. People on Needsey book it for holidays, work trips, and times when a house move or new baby makes home a bit hectic. Pets usually get more one-on-one attention and a familiar routine of walks, meals and sleep. Post the dates, your pet's needs and how they get on with other animals, and local carers can tell you about their home.

Questions about home pet boarders

What affects the cost of home boarding?

The number of nights, the number of pets, size and care needs, and busy times like school holidays and Christmas.

What should I pack for my pet?

Their usual food, bowls, bedding or a favourite toy, lead, medication with written instructions, and your vet's contact details.

Do pets need vaccinations for boarding?

Most carers ask for current vaccinations and flea and worm treatment, especially if other pets live in the home. Check before you book.

Can we do a trial stay?

Many carers are happy to do a meet and greet or a short day visit first. It helps your pet settle and lets you see the home.

How does payment work on Needsey?

You pay through Needsey once you and a provider have agreed the job. Nothing is charged before then. The money is held until the job is confirmed done: by you, or automatically if you haven't confirmed or pressed Not done yet within 5 days of the provider marking it finished. It is released to the provider 24 hours after that, unless a dispute is raised in that time.

Are providers on Needsey checked?

Every provider completes an ID check before taking jobs. Some work needs more: a Ministry of Justice criminal record check for babysitting, companionship for older people and school tutoring, and a licence and insurance for electrical, plumbing, gas and building work. Listings show badges for the checks a provider has passed. For other work that needs a licence, ask the provider for theirs.

What if something goes wrong?

If the provider marks the job finished and it isn't, press Not done yet and say what's missing. Once a job is confirmed done, you can raise a dispute from the job's chat during the 24 hours before the payment is released, with photos or other evidence. A real person at Needsey reviews it and decides whether the payment goes to the provider or back to you. This doesn't take away your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
