“Work that helps people, even in a small way, is very fulfilling.”
In Shay's words
Why I joined Needsey
I joined Needsey to make some extra income in a way that is flexible and helps people in the community at the same time.
Whether it's feeding your pet or watering your garden while you're away, walking your dog if life gets busy, or giving companionship to a loved one who might not get many visitors, I find work that helps people even in a small way to be a very fulfilling experience.
“Calm, patient and friendly.”
A job I'm proud of
I'm proud of my weekly companionship visits with my neighbour who had dementia. He didn't have much family locally, so I visited him most weeks for approximately two years, in his own home and then in his rest home too.
Our visits consisted of anything from sitting and talking about old memories, sharing laughs, helping with his grocery shopping, going out for ice cream, scenic drives and even activities such as mini golf.
His adult daughter often gave me feedback that even when he couldn't remember what we had done each week, he always remembered how much fun he had and that it was the highlight of his week.
