How it works

  1. Post for free

Say what you need, where and when. It takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

  2. Compare offers

Local providers offer to help. Look at their listings, photos, badges and reviews, and ask questions first.

  3. Pay safely

Pay through Needsey once you agree. The money is held until the job is confirmed done, then released to the provider.

Before you book

  • For legal advice, check the lawyer holds a current practising certificate.
  • For financial advice, check the adviser is licensed or works under a licensed provider.
  • Agree what you share and keep logins and documents secure.

About Financial & Legal

Running a small business or side hustle comes with paperwork. Local providers on Needsey help with bookkeeping, GST returns, setting up accounting software, payroll and admin, and business planning. Much of it is done online. Post what you need, the size of your business and any deadlines, and providers can offer to help. For tax advice, legal advice or financial advice, check that the provider is registered or licensed for that kind of work.

Questions about bookkeepers and business help

What affects the cost of bookkeeping?

The number of transactions, how up to date your books are, the software you use and how often you need help.

Can it be done online?

Yes. Bookkeeping and admin are often done online with shared access to your accounting software.

Is a bookkeeper the same as an accountant?

Not always. A bookkeeper keeps your records up to date; for tax advice or year-end accounts you may need a chartered accountant or a registered tax agent.

How do I keep my information safe?

Give access through your software's user invites rather than sharing your password, and only share what the job needs.

How does payment work on Needsey?

You pay through Needsey once you and a provider have agreed the job. Nothing is charged before then. The money is held until the job is confirmed done: by you, or automatically if you haven't confirmed or pressed Not done yet within 5 days of the provider marking it finished. It is released to the provider 24 hours after that, unless a dispute is raised in that time.

Are providers on Needsey checked?

Every provider completes an ID check before taking jobs. Some work needs more: a Ministry of Justice criminal record check for babysitting, companionship for older people and school tutoring, and a licence and insurance for electrical, plumbing, gas and building work. Listings show badges for the checks a provider has passed. For other work that needs a licence, ask the provider for theirs.

What if something goes wrong?

If the provider marks the job finished and it isn't, press Not done yet and say what's missing. Once a job is confirmed done, you can raise a dispute from the job's chat during the 24 hours before the payment is released, with photos or other evidence. A real person at Needsey reviews it and decides whether the payment goes to the provider or back to you. This doesn't take away your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.
